Tall Ribbon Vase

Materials and shapes are dramatically contrasted in this popular series of vases designed for MoMA by American designer Peter Hewitt. A metal band, curved to hold water and support flowers, is suspended securely within parallel walls of plated glass. This sinuous contrast of metal and glass gives resonance to everyday materials, and the stunningly simple design equals the beauty of the stems they hold. The Tall Ribbon Vase exhibits an innovative use of materials, a design principle celebrated in the Museum's collection.
